As part of the Aging Rainbow Coalition's mission to foster community, we host monthly Health & Happiness Events. These gatherings take place on the third Wednesday of each month from 2-4 pm at various locations. Together, we engage in meaningful discussions on important topics, support one another, and have fun along the way.
Join us as we collaborate with Voices Out Loud and Knoxville Queer History for a hands-on event focused on preserving LGBTQ+ history.
A little about our collaborators: We began collecting oral histories as the Voices Out Loud Project (VOL Project) in 2016 following state and federal crackdowns on LGBTQ+ rights. In 2018 we began collecting physical and digital artifacts in addition to the amazing stories told by our oral history narrators and thus Knoxville Queer History (KQH) was born. To date, we have conducted 53 oral histories and collected hundreds of artifacts and thousands of documents that tell the story of queer people in Knoxville and Appalachia.
Come have fun and learn how to scan, digitize, and care for photos, documents, and other materials that tell our community’s story.
