The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
Pick a day and join us at the O'Connor Senior Center (611 Winona Street, Knoxville, TN 37917), to participate in a free training on serving the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender plus (LGBT+) older adults in East Tennessee, on June 2, 3, or 4, 2025,
from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM EST. Lunch will be provided.
This training is part of a research study jointly operated by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. You will be asked about your current knowledge on serving this population; followed by the free training, a follow up survey and focus group.
You can also contact two of the researchers for this study including
Dr. Jennifer Smith at jsmit614@utk.edu
or Dr. Joseph Winberry at jwinber@unc.edu.
The training and research is designed to enhance care and support for LGBT+ older adults and is ideal for public service professionals and students-nurses, social workers, healthcare providers, counselors, librarians, physical therapists, clergy, and others-who are committed to fostering inclusive, affirming, and culturally responsive environments.
Trainers will cover key topics including LGBT+ history, health disparities, culturally sensitive care practices, and strategies for creating welcoming and inclusive spaces.
Together, we can build safer, more respectful communities for our aging LGBT+ population.
